What the heck is ‘Series 3’?

Series 3 is the the latest edition of our ESR Campaign Guide Series.

What’s new with Series 3?

LOTS. New maps, new scenarios, new uniform images. You can get an idea of the new features by checking out what is available in the Series 3 edition of To Assure My Dynasty, 1808 in Iberia.

Does this ‘Series 3’ edition replace the previous edition of To Assure My Dynasty?

Yes.

Do I need to replace my previous editions of ESR Campaign Guides with the new one?

You may want to, but you don’t have to.

Both the original release and the new Series 3 editions are compatible with ESR Napoleonics Second Edition, they both cover the same campaigns and with one exception feature the same battles.

With that said, there are a lot of improvements in Series 3: All new maps, completely rewritten scenarios, drastically expanded uniform images, just to name a few, so you may want to buy the new edition, but that’s up to you.

Lots of previously published ESR Campaign Guides are unavailable, what’s up with them?

They are all getting upgraded. We started with To Assure My Dynasty, the second Series 3 Campaign Guide to be published was the Series 3 edition of Master of the World, 1812 in Russia, and third is The First Battle Lost – planned to be released in Q3 2024.

Can I pre-order the new editions of the other Series 3 Campaign Guides?

Only 1812-1s3: Master of the World, 1812 in Russia, Series 3 is available for sale at this time. Because of the delays we experienced back in 2020 we’re not taking pre-orders on other titles until we are very close to their release. Iberia-1s3: To Assure My Dynasty, Series 3 is unavailable at the moment but will be reprinted. The next Campaign Guide to be released will be 1809-1s3: The First Battle Lost, 1809 in Germany, Series 3.

I read when Iberia-1s3 got updated to Series 3 it had a new scenario added, will that happen with the other Campaign Guides as Series 3 editions are released?

Honestly, that will depend on the Campaign Guide. Some will, some may not. We’ll release the details of each once we’re able. But, for context: Master of the World had several additional scenarios added, and so will The First Battle Lost.

When is Master of the World Series 3 going to ship?

We don’t have a date yet, and because of the schedule setbacks we faced in 2020, we don’t want to set back expectations, so we’re not going to announce a date until we are confident we can keep to it.

Master of the World began shipping 19 October 2021.

I pre-ordered another title at some point, what’s up with that?

We did previously take pre-orders for 1814-1s3: The Most Awful Situation, 1814 in France, when Iberia-1s3 and 1812-1s3 were pushed back, we halted pre-ordered of 1814-1s3. If you’d like to cancel a pre-order that has not yet shipped and receive a full refund (USD) of the purchase price, we completely understand and will accommodate you, just e-mail us.

What about new titles?

Excellent question. We wrestle with that daily. We do have new titles in the works as well, but we also have a significant back catalog to update. And we’re working towards aligning our Campaign Guide releases with miniatures packs going forward.

I heard Series 3 is going to hardback, is that true?

Yes.

What if I preferred the ‘concealed coil’ binding because I could fold a portion behind the other as well as easily lay it flat?

We hear you. And we appreciated those features as well. We’ve had a lot of consistent demand from our customers for casebound, i.e. ‘hardback’ publications, and this upgrade was obviously the time to do it.

What about The Complete Player’s Guide, is it going hardback?

CPG-1: ESR Napoleonics, The Complete Player’s Guide is not being converted to casebound at this time.

ESR Second Edition was never updated to hardback, but ESR Napoleonics Series 3 began shipping in a casebound hardback edition in Q2 2021.
