French Heavy Cavalerie Division (Mid-Late War)
The French may not have pioneered the use of mass cavalry, but Napoleon’s Army elevated it to a new level. The massed squadrons of Napoleon’s heavy cavalry divisions were dominated by the elite cuirassier regiments. Large men, on large horses, wearing helmets and armor, were used as a reserve shock force to pierce enemy lines and destroy a faulting foe.
