Setting built up areas on fire
Just wondering if any thought had been given to setting built up areas on fire?
From a scenario specific standpoint yes.
Seems to crop quite regularly when reading historical accounts.
We ruled out a general case rule internally during development because while it happens fairly frequently, we couldn't find a way for it not to have an outsized impact on game play. Our assessment was that generally speaking, sure it happened, but the battle didn't significantly change through its representation, so, should we really create additional mechanics that don't generally impact game play? Probably not, and doing so may likely drive players towards strategies that were more ahistorical than historical. So we concluded against it.
With that said, this is exactly where house rules and scenario-specific rules can pickup. Though the implementation for the latter depends on the scenario.
