Is there a minimum number of batteries necessary to create a Grand Battery? If I have understood correctly, it could be from a single formation and so could , in theory, be a single battery.
The Grand Battery is quite powerful though and so I would think there would be a minimum number of batteries combined. Is this correct?

There is not a minimum number 'grand batteries' varied in size wildly during the period and really their functional definition had nothing to do with the number of guns but rather their purpose, leadership, and resources.

The limiting factor is the number of Formation Commanders you have with the Lead Grand Battery Leadership Characteristic, which generally speaking, will always be *way* lower than the number of batteries you have. So you need to ask yourself what the best use of the resources you have: parceling out a Grand Battery Commander to a single battery, or throwing several together so that you can gain his net benefit across them all.

Right, I see. That explains it nicely.
Thank you.
