I am just starting out with Napoleonics and decided to start with the ESR ruleset.  I have the capability to buy 6m  Irregular figures from another wargamer.  He has an exstensive amount of French and Austrian figures.  I have the rule set and the Ulm & Austerlitz Campaingns 1805 book.  My first question is how do you determine how many stands/bases for each unit?  Am I missing something here? Then how many 6mm figs do you put on to a base?

Hi Hatchitt!

A Unit is a single stand/base, representing either a battalion, squadron group, or battery.

Completely up to you and what you feel looks appropriate. Since a base = a battalion, the figures are effectively decorative – they tell you the type of Unit and such, but their number does not represent anything in game play so you can have as many or as few as you are satisfied with.

For my 6mm Heroics & ROS, which are a similar size as the irregulars, I base them in 3 ranks of 8 for a total of 24 figures.  My bases are 30mm x 20mm.  Hope this helps.
