Hello,
So I came across a situation in my last game. Â I foolishly ployed a formation and while they were marching to change positions, I passed them close enough to be threatened at range by my opponent. Â So what would my cohesion have been? I said that ployed and shot from the flank, my formation would have the cohesion result of being attacked from the rear. So x0, therefore I said I had the lowest cohesion possible of 1. Â Was that correct?Â
Also, because my formation was ployed I didn’t get to shoot back.  Was that correct as well?
Thanks for the help.

So what would my cohesion have been?
Cohesion is calculated by adding up the Cohesion Values of deployed Units, committed Assets, and the Commander's Cohesion Bonus (Common Game Turns, page 50).
if your Formation has no deployed Units, then its Cohesion Value is zero, plus its Commander's Cohesion Bonus (and any other Commanders who have Taken Personal Command), and it has a minimum net-Cohesion of '1'. The Threatened from rear modifier does not apply unless the Threat is actually hitting the rear of the Threatened Unit's base (the ployed portion of a Formation is considered one Unit per 5.2.4 so the column only has one rear base edge). If the Reformation Area at the tail of the column is in the enemy's Threat Zone that would halve the Formation's Cohesion (per 8.6 and the Quick Reference Guide's Threat Assessment Table), again with a minimum Cohesion of '1'.
So it sounds like you probably computed the Formation's Cohesion incorrectly but you may have been close or equal to the correct result.
Also, because my formation was ployed I didn’t get to shoot back.  Was that correct as well?
This was probably correct. Assuming the entire column is ployed the only Unit that could potentially Threaten the enemy is the lead Unit.
Let me know if those help/clarify!

@david thanks David for the help. So one more question based on your answer. If I have a formation that is transitioning from deployed to ployed and there are still units that are deployed, do those units still deployed still threaten or is the entire formation counted as being ployed and don’t threaten? Thanks

Deployed Units will Threaten the enemy. Of Units that have ployed into a column, only the lead Unit can Threaten the enemy.
That make sense?
