The French are to break the Austrians and the Austrians are to hold on, but there is no time limit or other constrains. So, is the battle meant to really to be simply on who breaks first?

When creating scenarios we consider the time constraints of the historical event: Davout is attempting to extricate his corps to the north, the French at Abensberg are attempting to relieve pressure and create a hole between the two Austrian wings. In this particular case there isn't any historical time constraint that can be translated into a set hour. Therefore, the scenario becomes a contest not exactly of who breaks first, but can the French break the Austrians. Hope that helps.
